The Selfless Savior: Our example

“Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
2 Peter 1:4

I’ve met some very generous people in my lifetime.
Those people have given their time, their talents, their spare bedrooms, their money, and their listening ears when I’ve needed help.

And they’ve asked nothing in return…even though helping me may have been a burden to them at the time.
They didn’t see me as a burden.
They saw an opportunity to help me when I was floundering.

God is that kind of selfless giver.
Actually, He exemplifies that kind of giving. He gave His only begotten son for the salvation of my soul…and yours.

Through Jesus Christ, God gave us the promise of eternal life, the promise of His Word, and the daily benefits of being a Christian. (Psalm 68:19)

Why did He do this for me and you?
Because He desires that we escape the corruption that is in this world because of lust.

Every evil agenda you see in this world is a product of lust:
Lust for power.
Lust for wealth.
Lust for control.

Jesus had the power of God at His disposal and could have had anything he wanted, but He laid it down and endured the torturous cross instead. His purpose was to pay the price tag of sin for all of humanity.

Jesus could have obtained great wealth by starting a mega church and worldwide healing ministry worth billions of dollars…but instead He selflessly served people in need without ever taking a paycheck.

Jesus could have taken the reins of His life in ways that would’ve pleased His flesh…but instead He gave His life to do the will of the Father, even if it meant a brutal death for Himself for our sakes.

Bottom line: Jesus wasn’t corrupted by lust. He didn’t want women, mansions, and gold. He had both a human and a divine nature. His divine nature kept the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh, and the pride of life at bay and under control. (1 John 2:15-17)

That lack of lust gave Jesus great ability for selfless service. He gave His life away…which is a great example for us to follow.

May we demonstrate the selfless service of Christ today, partaking in His divine nature and avoiding the lusts of this world.
And may we thank God for Christ’s victory over the corruption and lust of this world.

Selfless giving beats selfish living.

Keep your armor on.
