Your Words Matter Everyday

“And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.”
James 3:6

Words are very powerful.
Founded by your heart and formed by your tongue, your words have incredible potential to help, heal, or hurt.

Your words can help.
This world is filled with trials, troubles, and turmoil.
Sometimes you have the privilege of knowing what people are going through in life.
Sometimes you get a front row seat to someone’s stressful “stuff”.

You can use that vantage point to gossip, judge, and be critical…or you can use those opportunities to be the rare person who reaches out to say, “I’m here for you. I love you, and God loves you, too.”
Do unto others with your words as you would want done unto you.

Your words can heal.
One of the best ways to maintain strong relationships in life is to be “first and quick” to forgive.
Modern society has a “quick draw” attitude when it comes to being offended. Grudges and bitterness are commonplace, but they ought not be in the Christian heart.

If we make it a point to forgive others for their offenses, as Christ forgave us, then we avoid the emotional walls that are built whenever offenses come.
Some people go to their graves holding grudges against others, often for silly things…but Jesus said if you don’t forgive people who’ve hurt you, then God can’t forgive you. (Matthew 6:14-15)
Let’s not be those people.
Use words that are healing, not hurtful.

Your words can hurt.
This one is simple.
Whenever you’re tempted to
“tell someone off”…don’t.
Whenever you’re tempted to
“give them a piece of your mind”…don’t.
Whenever you’re tempted to talk about someone behind their back…don’t. (Proverbs 21:23)

Talk to God instead.
Better to hold your tongue than use it as a flamethrower.

Guard your fiery tongue and keep your armor on.
