A Long Fuse Serves Him Well

“He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that ruleth his spirit than he that taketh a city.”
Proverbs 16:32

Slow to anger.
That’s hard to do these days.
How many of us have yelled at our television or phone in the past year?
The past month? The past week?

I’m certainly guilty of that.

Nevertheless, God tells us that those who can keep their cool are better than those that can blow a gasket…why is that?

Because anybody can blow a gasket. It’s easy to yell at the people who drive 10mph UNDER the speed limit, or the politician who habitually lies, or the fake news media who spreads propaganda.

But we need to rule our own spirit.
If we’re ambassadors for Christ, and we represent His holy name, then we ought to be mindful of what we say and how we act.

Can you imagine if your nation sent an ambassador to another country and they lost their temper and shouted angrily in a foreign land? That would be known as a national embarrassment.

That ambassador would be recalled and replaced with somebody who has decorum, dignity, and confidence.

Rule your spirit well.
In a world of angry and frustrated people, be someone who speaks and acts with grace, confidence, and dignity.
Nowhere does the Bible command you to “get angry, give them a piece of your mind, and fly off the handle!”

You represent the King of Kings.
Stay calm, cool, and collected.

Keep your armor on.
