“And when they heard of the resurrection of the dead, some mocked: and others said, We will hear thee again of this matter.”
Acts 17:32
I never had a problem believing that Jesus Christ rose from the dead.
It was never a mental obstacle for me to believe that Jesus raised others from the dead, and was also raised from the dead Himself.
Actually, I would EXPECT Jesus to rise from the grave…not just because He said he would, but because (in my mind) humans can’t kill God in the flesh and expect Him to stay dead.
But when Paul mentioned the resurrection of Christ to those people in Athens, they mocked him.
Sometimes Christians assume that other people naturally believe in the resurrection…but witnessing to others will tend to reveal that’s not true.
After a heated debate with an agnostic coworker about Christianity and the Bible, another person approached me quietly and said,
“You seem pretty intellectual, so why do you believe the Bible is true?”
Funny how “intellectual” and “Bible-believing” didn’t jive in his mind…
but I went on to explain what I believe about Jesus, the Bible, and the prophecies centered on His life and death.
He thought about what I said, then he politely went back to work.
Just like the verse above:
One mocked me openly in front of everyone else…no surprise.
The other listened and pondered the story of Jesus.
Jesus Christ rose from the grave.
That separates Christianity from every other religion…God walked among us, was rejected, killed, buried, and resurrected from the grave.
He conquered death.
Take that and proclaim it.
Many will mock it.
Some will ponder it.
But a few will BELIEVE IT.
Ask God to lead you to the few.
Keep your armor on.
