A Tiny Teacher

“Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise:”
Proverbs 6:6

Before I ever knew this verse existed, I loved to watch ants.

I was cutting some boards on my front porch recently, and as I sat there marking them with a pencil I felt something on my leg. I knew it was an ant before I ever looked.
It turns out I was sitting on a crack in the concrete and there were ants crawling around busily.

I watched them for a minute or two. Ants have been running the same program since I was a kid: work, search, and prep.
They’re the original preppers.

I watched them cover a zig-zagging path across the fresh sawdust, looking for food I suppose. God gave us so many life lessons in the animal kingdom. The ant is so tiny, but much wisdom can be gleaned from watching his life.

The Exoskeleton.
The ant doesn’t have an inner bone structure like humans. They have a strong outer exoskeleton that protects their tiny bodies.

We also have a strong outer covering over our delicate lives and frail bodies: the Lord God Almighty is the strength that comes from outside of ourselves.
His power over your life is stronger than the bones and muscles that move your body.

The Colony: An Army.
Where there’s one, there’s many.
When I felt the ant on my leg, I brushed it off and immediately looked for more.

Christians are an army.
Where there’s one Christian, they’ll be more, because our purpose is to congregate, reach lost souls, and multiply.

The devil has his hands full because God has empowered Christians to challenge evil in this world.
Never stop challenging evil.
Never forget that you’re in the army of the Lord.

The Anthill.
After finishing my work, I had a pile of sawdust on the porch and sidewalk, so I began sweeping it away into the grass.
I noticed numerous anthills on the border of the sidewalk and the grass, so I swept them away also.

The next day when I went outside to resume my work, I looked at where those anthills had been and guess what? They were already rebuilt and back in business.

They never stop.
They don’t know HOW to quit.

God knows how easy it is to be swept off course and lose our focus. If that’s happened to you, I encourage you to embrace God and jump back into your life’s purpose and calling.

If we stay on task and stick together, we can accomplish great things for the glory of God.
Don’t quit. Christians don’t quit until God says quit…we work like ants.

Keep your armor on.
