“The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.”
Ecclesiastes 1:9
When you’re young the world is new and exciting.
Once in a while I look at my baby book and the photos that Mom put together to record my “firsts” in life: first word, first crawl, first steps, first tooth, first day in school…perhaps you have a book like that.
And beyond the baby book came the other firsts of life that only God recorded: first solo bike ride, first friend, first time camping, first time cooking, first job, first major surgery, etc.
And billions of people perpetuate this experience of life everyday.
We have to learn about life, people, and ourselves through new experiences all the time.
It’s amazing to me how God created this closed loop system of the human experience. It allows us to experience every aspect of life from our own unique perspective.
I’ve seen the sunny mountaintops and the blessings of God, wishing they’d never end…but along came the storm clouds of life which pushed me back down into the valleys.
And the valley experience trials gave me the opportunity to seek God for the grace to lead me back to the mountaintop.
I’m finding that the secret is to accept the mountaintops AND the valleys, because both are necessary for my maturity.
(You’ll know you’re maturing when you can praise Him in the hard times, too.)
You can’t control everything that happens to you, you can only control your response to the things that God allows.
Your blessings and trials have also happened to millions of other people for thousands of years.
There’s nothing new under the sun.
Your current trial in life might be
YOUR “first rodeo” in that particular arena, but it isn’t God’s.
He knows when we need a high mountain respite or a low valley trial in life.
Walk with Him through the cycle of highs and lows. Stay faithful to Him. He’ll stay faithful to you.
Keep your armor on.
