“If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.”
James 1:26
Q. What is the quickest way to inspect someone’s heart?
A. Listen to how they speak.
The Holy Spirit is a leader and guide for believers to make the RIGHT decisions in life.
He tells us when we’re right.
He tells us when we’re wrong.
He helps us sort out the junk.
He leads us toward truth and ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS points back to Jesus Christ as our example to follow…
even in the purity of our speech.
Did Christ cuss and swear?
Do you think He walked around dropping F-bombs and filling every other word with profanity?
Did He preach on Mt. Olivet and rouse His listeners with some choice profanity just for good effect?
Did Jesus Christ cuss out the high priests and soldiers who infringed on His life and human rights and brutally beat Him?
Did Jesus Christ hang on the cross bleeding and cursing out the soldiers assigned to watch Him die?
“No” to all of the above.
So why do so many who claim to love the Lord wallow in filthy, worldly, profane speech?
My (2) “Christian” co-workers have filthy mouths. They’re among the worst in the office.
Online chat rooms are filled with filthy mouths that praise God while cursing men.
The “Patriot Movement” has prominent voices with filthy mouths.
The world is filled with filthy mouths.
Filthy mouths come from filthy hearts.
Our hearts are sinful and deceptive and our tongues air the issues of our heart. (Jeremiah 17:9-10)
Jesus didn’t have to cuss to get His point across, so neither do we.
But, He talked about those who do…
(Luke 6:45)
I want to see this world experience a revival in the spirit of holiness…Christians ought to lead by example.
People notice when we DON’T talk like the world. Keeping our speech free from filth is a great testimony of our salvation TRANSFORMATION.
“But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.”
2 Timothy 2:16
I’m so thankful that the Holy Spirit has cleaned up my tongue, which was among the foulest.
He brought the Word into my heart,
and that washed my mouth out better than any bar of soap!
Keep your armor on.
