“So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.”
1 Samuel 17:50
I love the story of David vs. Goliath.
It’s motivating, encouraging, empowering, and inspiring.
I try to read that story a few times a year. It is full of powerful life applications, and I want to remind you of those things today.
Reminder #1:
You can boldly stand against evil.
There’s no verse in the Bible that says Christians are to be timid, shy, nervous, and intimidated…quite the opposite.
Had David been intimidated by Goliath we wouldn’t have this story, and David may have been forgotten in history.
But he knew His God.
He knew the power of his God, and most importantly, he had faith in His God to give him the victory.
Not even a 9ft tall warrior was going to intimidate David…so what does it take to intimidate you, Christian? If God be for you, who could possibly be against you? (Romans 8:31)
Reminder #2:
No shotguns or bazookas needed.
David didn’t have modern weapons in his hands. He didn’t roll up in an armored Humvee and hop out with a Kevlar vest and a machine gun.
He had a sling and a stone. Why?
Because if he had massive weaponry then history would have recorded that David’s superior weapons were the source of his victory over Goliath.
It wasn’t his superior weaponry…it was his superior God. The Lord empowered David’s sling and stone in order that He alone could receive glory for the defeat of Goliath.
God wants the glory in your life, too.
It’s not about WHAT you have,
it’s about WHO you have.
Reminder #3:
God knows how to drop His enemy.
Don’t fret. The devil wants you to be anxious, nervous, and intimidated in life. That’s because the devil is anxious, nervous, and intimidated by the LORD Jesus Christ…he’s just trying to pass his fear on to you…don’t buy it. (James 2:19)
God didn’t give David a spirit of fear, doubt, or unbelief, and He didn’t give you that spirit either. (2 Timothy 1:7)
The devil will be dropped into the lake of fire. It’s going to happen one day. (Revelation 20:10) In the meantime, stand boldly against evil and do your part for His kingdom.
Fight like David today. Keep your armor on.
