“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”
Romans 15:13
It’s easy to look at this dark and evil world, shake your head, throw your hands in the air, and declare to the heavens,
“This world is hopeless!”
The devil wants us to forget about hope. He wants us so distracted by the problems in the world that we lose our focus on the LORD.
Satan wants to turn Christians into depressed, cynical pessimists.
I’ve never seen a cynical pessimist who radiated joy. Have you?
I’ve never seen someone in the throes of depression who was at peace with the world. Have you?
Depression, cynicism, and pessimism cannot occupy the same space with hope, joy, and peace. They’re polar opposites.
God is a God of hope.
And Paul tells us in Romans that our God of hope desires to fill us with JOY and PEACE.
Your joy is not tied to this world, it’s tied to the Savior who gave himself for you, promised you eternal life, and is coming back for you.
Our source of peace is not external. It’s not dependent on how you feel about your circumstances. Our peace is internal, flowing from a heart of faith, an understanding of Gods Word, and the presence of the Holy Spirit within us.
If you’re fighting depression and pessimism about the issues of life, then by all means get your eyes and ears hooked up to the Word of God. Then ask God the Father to fill your heart with hope, peace, and joy.
He will. He filled me this weekend when I was so discouraged I was weeping. (Lamentations 3:47-66)
But He turned my tears into joy all over again, and my griping turned to praise.
Be encouraged. God cares.
The best is yet to come, Christian.
Christ is coming.
Keep your armor on.
