“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.”
Psalm 1:1-2
Do you want to be blessed? I do.
How can we be blessed in the midst of a perverse, sin-fueled, and crooked culture?
Try the Psalm 1:1-2 recipe:
#1 – Heed wise counsel: There’s a reason for all the strife, division, confusion, and chaos in the world.
Godly counselors have been rejected by society and replaced with ungodly celebrity idols and “feel-good gurus.”
Wise counselors lead you to do what’s RIGHT. Listen to those who exalt Jesus Christ and the Word of God.
#2 – Stand for what’s right: What’s your weakness? Anger? Profanity? Laziness? Jealousy? Porn? Impatience? Greed? Gambling? Drugs or alcohol?
You live in a world that caters to your weakness. You have weak flesh that justifies your sin. You have an adversary who draws you out to entice and devour you.
But Christian soldiers don’t fold like cheap suits. We stand up in the righteousness of Christ, even if we have to stand alone.
#3 – Don’t sit too long. Soldiers have a purpose: their job is to engage an enemy with the actions necessary to drive back or defeat that enemy.
They’ll rest when necessary, but they maintain combat readiness.
The Christian that sits and judges everyone else’s actions with copious scoffing, scorning, and complaining is usually the one that rarely, if ever, lifts a finger to serve God or His people. We can all become that person if we sit too long.
If you’ve been out of church and Christian service for a while, get back to it as soon as possible. There is much work to be done, and God has a role just for you. Seek God, pray, and serve as an active Christian soldier.
#4 – Meditate on Scripture. The average person has 6,000 to 60,000 thoughts in a single day.
Your mind is not a grassy field into which the devil wants to launch a few fiery arrows…your mind is a complex supercomputer which the devil is always attempting to hack for his own destructive purposes.
Keep scriptures flowing through your mind until they’re flowing from your lips…let the Words of Truth combat the lies of the Liar.
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.” Isaiah 26:3
This recipe has yielded phenomenal results in my life, and I hope that it will do the same in your life.
Keep your armor on.
