The Still, Small Voice

“And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.”

1 Kings 19:12

God is the most powerful force you could ever imagine.

He is more powerful than raging wildfires, F5 tornadoes, Cat 5 hurricanes, atomic bombs, or nuclear weapons.

Nothing scares Him.

Nothing threatens Him.

Nothing can remove Him or

challenge His power.

There are no contenders for His

kingdom or throne.

He’s not going anywhere.

So how does One, who has such great authority and power, speak?

Does He shout at His people? Does He scream and get red in the face? Do the veins bulge in His neck as He makes demands of us and barks orders?

No, that’s not God at all. God speaks in a still, small voice. He wants to speak to us, and the devil knows that He wants to speak to us.

So, the devil brings a lot of distraction and clamor to drown out His voice.

Ever see someone in a car listening to LOUD rock or rap music? Clamor and noise.

Ever see a home with two televisions on at the same time, on two different channels, with nobody watching them? Clamor and noise.

Ever see someone with their face buried in their smartphone for hours on end? Distraction.

Do you make time for quiet meditation with God and His Word? Or are you bombarded and distracted with clamor and noise?

God wants to speak to your heart and commune with you. He’s not going to scream at you to get to your prayer closet. He’s not going to rip the distracting phone out of your hand and shut down your social media. He’s not going to yank the TV cord out of the wall.

God wants us to make decisions with our free will which allow us to hear His still, small voice.

He doesn’t need to raise His voice. He just wants us to raise our ears to hear His voice as we read His Word and pray to Him.

I can turn off some clamor.

I can shut off some noise.

I can put away some distractions.

I can meet with Him everyday and hear what He has to say.

Have a great weekend and keep your armor on, friends!
