“Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.”
Psalm 51:12
We all need this verse at some point in life…we need spiritual restoration because life kicks rocks, sand, and mud all over our joy.
Our salvation in Jesus Christ should be like a ‘57 Chevy…clean, head-turning, fun, valuable, and distinct from all of the other cars on the road.
If I had a beautiful ‘57 Chevy, I wouldn’t toss the keys to random people and say,
“Here! Take her for a spin!”
Salvation is too precious to give away to the world. It needs to be guarded, cherished, and kept clean. Otherwise this world will crawl all over it, get it dirty, scratch the paint, spill soda on the leather, and drive it through the seediest neighborhoods with the biggest potholes.
Years of abuse like that will leave any ‘57 Chevy looking terrible…as a matter of fact, miles of regular driving will expose any vehicle to the elements and damages big and small.
Years of traveling through this life as a Christian can cause us some spiritual damage.
Spiritual damage is a joy killer.
If all you hear in life is squealing brakes, rattling shocks, and a stuttering engine, you’ll have a hard time singing a joyful song.
If all you see in your life is a rusty prayer life, fading interest in God, and lackluster spiritual power and performance…then you’re ripe for restoration and revival.
Are you as excited about the LORD Jesus today as you were when you first got saved?
If so, you’ve probably been buffing and polishing your faith everyday, and washing it with the water of the Word.
If not, then something else has been driving your life and you need God to restore your joy.
So ask Him to restore you.
And then implement daily habits of prayer, Bible study, and praise that will keep your life out of the dirty ditches and on the joyful highway of salvation.
We can finish our races well,
shining strong for the Lord…
we need not become rust buckets and rattle traps in life.

Keep the joy of your salvation shiny, friends.
