“But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God: I trust in the mercy of God for ever and ever.”
Psalm 52:8
The Psalmist makes a bold statement here, and I wonder if we can be as confident.
He describes himself as a green olive tree in the house of God.
A green olive tree is alive.
A green olive tree is fruitful.
A green olive tree is valuable.
Are you alive, fruitful, and valuable to God?
I don’t mean in a general sense…of course God loves every soul and desires that lost sinners find their way home to Him through the cross of Christ.
My question is: Are you filled with the Holy Spirit, bearing fruit for Gods glory, and doing what He wants you to do?
I’m not asking if you’re a “Super Christian.”
I’m not asking if you shared Christ with everyone you met yesterday and they all got saved.
You don’t glow in the dark and neither do I…but are you at least confident of your position in Christ?
The Psalmist didn’t say, “I think I’m doing good enough to be of some use to God in His house.”
I wouldn’t want my surgeon to say, “I think I’m good enough to remove your gallbladder without cutting your liver in the process.”
I like being around confidence.
I don’t even mind people speeding around me on the highway as long as they’re confident and decisive.
Go for it.
I’ll take confidence over timidity and fear any day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Remember the song “I have decided to follow Jesus”…what’s the next line?
“No turning back.”
“No turning back.”
Confidence says:
“I am like a green olive tree in the house of God, and by God’s grace no devil is going to shake me from His purpose. I refuse to turn back.”
Be the olive tree.
Be planted in God’s will, rooted in His Word, and confident in Christ today.
