Christian Soldiers Need Rest

“I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.”
Psalm 3:5

Did Adam and Eve need much sleep in the Garden of Eden? I tend to think not.
They were the original DNA manuscript, after all, so you know that they had to be “firing on all eight cylinders.” Think of everything we’re bombarded with that they never even knew existed:

  • There were no pesticides being sprayed in the garden.
  • They didn’t eat over-processed sugary foods.
  • They weren’t alcoholics.
  • They weren’t popping pharmaceutical drugs.
  • They weren’t staring at electronic screens all day long.
  • They were unvaccinated.
  • They didn’t have political banter, fake news, pride marches, and drag queen story time in the Garden of Eden.

I don’t think they needed much sleep at all, but I certainly do.
And so do you.
We are living through incredibly stressful, challenging, and traumatic times.

God has provided sleep as a wonderful recharging mechanism for our bodies.

Rest is good. Naps are great.
But a solid night’s sleep is the BEST.

The LORD sustains us even when we sleep. Our breathing, heart rate, dream state, senses, and bodily functions are activated even as we “check out” for the night.

Can I encourage you to get the best and most sleep that you can every night?
A tired Christian is more vulnerable to deception, destruction, depression, disease, and defeat.

Would you rather field an army of sleep-deprived soldiers, or an army of well-rested soldiers?

The choice is clear.
Get plenty of rest this weekend, dear Christian. I trust the Lord to sustain you always.
