Big King and little kings

“In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the LORD sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.”
Isaiah 6:1

In the year that Queen Elizabeth died, I saw thousands of people lined up to view her casket.

I saw the world laud her influence and reign for the past 70 years, fawning over her steady (public) personality and composure.

I saw her successor, King Charles, don every uniform available to represent his nation’s reach and power.

You know what I didn’t see?
I didn’t see His majesty the Lord Jesus Christ being exalted as the new King of England.
As the mourners all gathered on that checkerboard cathedral floor, God looked down at the needy souls of mere men.

The rulers of this world have titles, lordships, royal banners, pomp, and grand festivities…but they were only given those things by God.

God is the one who raises up kings and removes them. (Daniel 2:21)

I have to wonder what God thinks as He watches these men from His everlasting throne.

What does the King think as He watches men try to play king?
Is it like watching a little boy clomp around the house in his daddy’s shoes?

God would never bow to the queen.
God will never bow to King Charles.
The kings of the earth would do well to consider the King of heaven.
He alone is high and lifted up.

The King is watching things closely.
As he sees men honored as kings, will He see us honor and exalt Him today?

No King but King Jesus.
