“And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.”
Hebrews 9:22
Blood.
There’s a reason that God keeps it stored inside the veins.
Whenever we see it outside of the veins, we can be sure there’s a problem.
The Old Testament of the Bible is filled with occasions where God’s people were told to sacrifice animals in order to cover their sins.
It wasn’t because God is a bloody God who loves to watch the blood flow. It was because sin is THAT SERIOUS and the people had to know that their sins would cost them something which was alive and valuable. In other words, it was a tangible reminder that sin would inevitably lead to death.
Without the shedding of blood there is no remission (forgiveness) for sin.
That means your money can’t buy forgiveness, your hands can’t earn forgiveness, and your brain can’t conjure up a miraculous way for forgiveness.
The only way that complete payment is made for your sin is with blood.
But not animal blood anymore.
Not contaminated human blood, either.
It has to be pure blood.
Sinless human blood.
Jesus Christ had such blood flowing through his veins. (1 Peter 1:18-19)
And the only way that blood would pay for sin, would be for His blood to be SHED WILLINGLY for the sins of the world.
That bloodshed came from the horrible scourging and beating of Jesus Christ at the hands of a Roman execution.
He was not like the thousands of lambs in the Old Testament.
He was the spotless (sinless) lamb whose pure, sinless blood was the only currency that could pay for the sins of the world.
I hope that you understand that.
Jesus ALLOWED sinful men to break His perfect body and shed His perfect blood…because to Him that temporary pain and suffering was worth keeping you out of hell for all of eternity.
But it only has value to you if you accept and believe that it was your ONLY ticket out of hell and into heaven.
You have a sin debt that can never be paid off by your good works…the only way to relieve that debt is with a complete and perfect payment from a perfect human: Jesus Christ, Emmanuel, God in the flesh.
Eternity is a long time.
This world is passing away.
Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb, or only drenched in your sin?
Have you called on Christ to be your Savior, asked for and received forgiveness, and accepted His free gift of salvation? (John 14:6)
Jesus paid it all…with His blood.
