Our scales vs. God’s scales

“A just weight and balance are the LORD’s: all the weights of the bag are his work.”
Proverbs 16:11

I was in an elementary school classroom earlier this year.
As I sat at the back of the room waiting for my wife, I spotted a triple beam balance on the table beside me. Play time!

I reached over and grabbed a 500mL beaker and set it on the scale plate. Using the weights on the beam I was able to determine the weight of the beaker to the tenth of a gram…good enough, right?

Yes and no.
For most intents and purposes, that scale will weigh objects close enough for a 3rd grader.

But in a medical engineering lab, scientists use equipment that is far more precise for their delicate work…they use finely calibrated digital scales and measuring equipment…good enough, right?

Yes and no…again.
The finest digital scales and measuring devices in the world will handle most anything man desires to measure.

However, man can NEVER measure every thing EXACTLY as it is, because there isn’t enough magnification, decimal points, or time available for man to measure everything PERFECTLY.

Only God can measure perfectly.
For instance:
Only God knows exactly how much every flea leg weighs.
He knows exactly what every grain of sand in the world weighs all of the time.
He knows what a snowflake weighs every tenth second while it is forming, and how much it weighs every tenth second while it is melting.

And in the verse above, He knows exactly how much gold and silver is contained in every valuable coin in the world…and whether the dealers are charging an appropriate fee for those coins (and subsequent goods) based on their actual weight and value.

God doesn’t expect us to be as precise as He is, but He does expect us to be as fair and honest in our dealings as we can be.
Our physical and financial transactions should never be skewed with dishonesty or deceit…the extra change from the cashier always gets returned, and the purse or wallet laying in the parking lot gets turned in as well.

God deserves our best and most honest decisions today.
Stay true to what’s right.
