“And I looked, and rose up, and said unto the nobles, and to the rulers, and to the rest of the people, Be not ye afraid of them: remember the LORD, which is great and terrible, and fight for your brethren, your sons, and your daughters, your wives, and your houses.”
Nehemiah 4:14
I have a question for you…
Are you a fighter?
I’m not asking if you’ve been in a schoolyard fistfight, a street fight, a knife fight, or a gun fight.
I’m not asking if you’re physically strong.
I’m not asking if you’re streetwise and tough.
Somebody who’s a fighter has a characteristic that goes beyond combat ability or physical aggression.
That characteristic is determination.
What have you determined to do in life?
Be a good spouse?
Be a good employee?
Be a good Christian?
Serve God and others?
Live a righteous life?
All of those things are important, but in this world you must first be determined to resist the devil and his temptations in order to successfully accomplish your spiritual goals.
Do you recognize and fight against his wiles in your life?
(James 4:7)
You have a purpose to fulfill in life, just like Nehemiah had a wall-building project to plan, oversee, construct, and complete.
And with a jeering, violent group threatening him, Nehemiah turned to those wall builders all around him and spoke to them the verse above.
His message:
“See your family?
Fight for them!
See your home?
Fight for it!
See your neighbors?
Fight for them!
See your nation?
Fight for it!”
Are you a fighter?
If you say “yes”, then you MUST be determined to fight the temptations of a prowling enemy.
Sin may seem harmless, but prolonged sin WILL take the determination and fight right out of you.
Determine to fight sin.
Determine to live righteously.
Determine to please God today!
Remember, Jesus fought for you, too.
