“And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”
Matthew 4:9-10
The temptation in the wilderness.
Jesus Christ had just been baptized, and the Spirit of the Lord led him into the wilderness for a season of fasting and prayer.
Jesus was approached by Satan.
Satan was watching Jesus Christ.
You and I talk about “battling the devil” and “fighting against Satan”, but the truth is that we’re probably battling some lower level minions in Satan’s demonic army.
Not Jesus.
He drew the attention of the devil himself because he was the only One who stood a chance of crushing the prince of darkness.
The Prince of Peace came to destroy the works of the devil.
(1 John 3:8)
And in the midst of a forty day fast, the devil figured Jesus was now weak and hungry enough to sell Himself for some bread to eat and the treasures of the world.
How did Jesus respond?
He reminded Satan of God…that it was His duty to worship and obey ONLY God.
Brilliant…because there was a time when Satan’s job was to lead the worship of God in heaven, but his pride led to his rebellion and getting booted from heaven.
Jesus reminded the devil that he should have stayed on God’s side…and all his pride and rebellion was about to fail forever.
“Get thee hence, Satan.”
DailyArmor translation…
“Beat it, devil, you’ve already lost.”
Don’t give away your testimony.
Satan lost everything that day forever and ever…thanks to Jesus Christ.
The devil came calling and our Champion answered the door and knocked him back off the porch.
That’s our Jesus!
