I’ve been mocked.
I’ve been yelled at.
I’ve been hated.
Why? Simply for loving the Lord.
I’ve talked about Him.
I’ve carried His Word.
And some people couldn’t handle it.
When I brought my Bible to the employee lunch table for the first time, it was like I brought a King Cobra into their midst. I didn’t preach at anyone, I simply sat down, opened it, and began reading to myself as I ate my lunch.
Sinners are uncomfortable in the presence of the Word of God.
They don’t want the reminder that God has something to say about their foul language, dirty jokes, and bad habits.
I know, because I was once the one with foul language, dirty jokes, and bad habits…and I didn’t want anyone preaching to me about God’s “rules and opinions.”
And as society embraces, glorifies, and celebrates gross sin and perversion, the way of the righteous will be hated more and more.
Picture it this way:
God’s Word is like the traffic light at an intersection.
Preachers are the police officers that ensure the lights are obeyed.
As the preachers become scarce, and the Word is ignored, there are soon people recklessly speeding through the intersection.
Eventually the entire light fixture is shot at, broken, and removed.
Don’t take my word for it, just drive through any gang-infested, inner-city area and look at the traffic lights and streetlights: they’re often destroyed.
The media, the corrupt political class, the evildoers, the perverts, the criminals…they all want Christianity destroyed.
They hate Christianity because their depraved hearts are lost in darkness, and they love their darkness and sin.
Christians WILL become the “boogeymen” more and more.
But our God is with us.
Don’t marvel at the haters, just shine on and keep obeying God’s Word.
When He says “Go”, do it.
When He says “Slow Down“, do it.
When He says “Stop”, do it.
Stay obedient in a disobedient world, even when they start to hate you for it.
