These Are Angry Days

Then said the LORD, Doest thou well to be angry?”
Jonah 4:4

Anger comes easily these days.
Everything that should be stable and off limits in a moral society is under attack and fair game…and that can make righteous people angry.

I’ve prayed and asked God for deliverance, relief, justice, mercy, revival, healing, righteous leaders, etc., etc., etc.

Here we are, being fed into the wood chipper by absolute evil, while everybody points fingers of blame at political figureheads and bumbling bureaucrat puppets.

Jonah was sent on a mission to preach to the wicked society of Nineveh, warning them of God’s judgment…and they actually listened, repented, fasted, and turned to God.

Wouldn’t repentance be nice?
Or are we so emotionally invested in this battle against evildoers that anything less than lightning bolts striking our enemies won’t suffice?

I think Jonah wanted to see some judgment rain down on Ninevah.

After all, he was swallowed by a whale and probably acid burned in it’s stomach for three days before being regurgitated onto the beach. That’s a whole lot of suffering, pain, and shame to endure just for a wicked people to repent and escape judgment.

I get angry, too.
It can be very hard to forgive my enemies. Some days, my flesh wants war, not peace.
I work hard, pay taxes, and do the right things as a productive citizen…and I expect the same from my leaders.

Doest thou well to be angry?
I got mad at Joe Biden and the corrupt politicians last night and ranted to my wife about what kind of people they are…and after I finished, I was furious with the whole lot of them and fit to be tied.

And I felt worse, not better.
I had to repent and get my mind back to who matters: the Lord Jesus Christ.
I had to pray. I had to refocus.
It’s not easy when you’ve been wronged, as we all have been.

But God knew problems would happen…He allowed them!
He even knew you’d get angry.
He knew we’d struggle to forgive, too.
Take your anger into the prayer closet
and tell God all about it.
You’ll find He has answers that will help you overcome the angry days
in which we live.

Don’t let anger derail you today.

Let’s be a picture of Christian confidence and radiate the joy of the Lord today!
