“For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow.”
Ecclesiastes 1:18
I’ve often wondered what Jesus was thinking about as He walked through His creation that was once perfect, witnessing the ruins of what had once been pristine.
When He walked upon the mountains and valleys, was He thinking about the fountains of the deep that ruptured the crust of the earth and caused the massive worldwide flood? (Genesis 7:10-12)
When He laid hands on the sick, was He thinking about the initial sin in the Garden of Eden that sparked the physical sickness and death of humanity? (Genesis 3)
When He confronted the legion of demons in the Gadarene madman, I wonder if He sent them into the swine while thinking, “I’ll see you soon for your ultimate demise.” (Luke 8:26-39, Revelation 20:10-15)
When Jesus saw a flea bitten stray dog, a bird with a broken wing, or an unloved orphan child…was He tempted to end His entire human experience in order to fix His creation immediately?
Jesus understood EVERYTHING.
He knew the details of every problem.
It was within His power to fix the broken things in His broken world.
But His mission was to live and give His life for ours, and not for Himself. He lived as a man of sorrows, well acquainted with grief for humanity.
Have you ever watched someone do the wrong thing, and no matter how much you tried to warn them of the consequences they kept on doing wrong? I wonder if Jesus felt that way as He observed fallen humanity.
Observing failure is frustrating…and it becomes heartbreaking when those you love wreck their lives despite the warnings.
I don’t believe God is frustrated by our sinful choices, but I do believe that our sinful choices grieve His heart. (Genesis 6:5-6)
With much wisdom comes much grief. The more you know, the more you notice that those who DON’T KNOW are headed for destruction. Jesus came to save us all from destruction. He stepped onto the sinking ship called planet Earth, determined to save us from perishing.
Being a born-again Christian should drastically change our daily perspective. When the Holy Spirit opens our spiritual eyes, we’re able to see the world like Christ saw it. We have the mind of Christ to analyze the world around us, and the Word of God is there to steer our conduct and decisions.
I’m thankful to know the Truth…
but it can get heavy watching this world circle the drain.
Jesus understands that very well.
What was Jesus thinking when He walked this world? He was thinking about giving Himself to save your soul and every soul you’ll see today. He was thinking about destroying the works of the lying devil.
Let’s pray for lost souls to be saved today, because Jesus is thinking of them right now.
