Are You Hypnotized?

“And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.”
Romans 13:11

Years ago, when I was in high school, we were called to an assembly in the auditorium.

We were there to experience a stage hypnotist show.
This really tall, blonde guy came bounding out with huge, crazy hair and began selecting volunteers to come onstage. In a few minutes he had about twenty kids seated in folding chairs behind him.

Then he hypnotized the entire group…I couldn’t believe it.
Using mental imagery and sound, he had them all “sleeping” within about five minutes…lulled by his soothing voice and confident commands.

“Breathe deep.”
“Just let yourself go.”
“You’re completely relaxed.”
“Just focus on my voice.”
“You feel wonderful.”

Once the students were all deep into their hypnotic trance, the suggestions began…

“You’ve never been colder.”
Everyone huddled to stay warm while rubbing their hands together.

“You’ve forgotten your name.”
I watched students stare dumbfounded and confused when asked to say their names.

“You only speak Martian.”
Mass gibberish began as students spoke to each other in a bizarre manner.

“_____ is the funniest thing ever.”
Hysterical laughter erupted onstage when the hypnotist said certain key words.

“You’re completely naked.”
He said this to my friend Keith who looked down alarmed, then immediately turned and ran off the stage fully clothed.

I could go on.
As the audience roared with laughter, I was struck by how EASY it was to hypnotize those students.

The devil is running a mass hypnosis show on humanity ALL OF THE TIME.
He has lulled humanity into complacency, largely using technology, and placed mesmerizing screens between us and God.

Why? Because he wants your mind filled with HIS suggestions and HIS imagery…not God’s standards and God’s truth.

It’s high time to awaken from any hypnotic spell that has gripped your heart and mind…time is ticking and your hourglass is losing sand, my friend.

Are you ready to meet Jesus?
Are you seeking Him daily?
Or are you hypnotized and spellbound by something in THIS world?

I talked to Keith after school that day and laughed how he thought he was naked onstage. He didn’t believe me or remember any of what had happened! He got mad at me and stormed off. He was humiliated.

Many will be angry that they fell for the hypnotic wiles of the devil, but once they die it’s too late. They’ll be lulled and deceived right into the lake of fire.

Stay awake! Awake! Awake!
