Worship Takes Work

“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”
John 4:24

What is worship?
It is reverent devotion communicated to God in admiration and thanksgiving for who He is and what He has done.
It is rehearsing back to God His attributes and ascribing Him worthy of our praise.

It’s hard to imagine a world where this kind of worship is the norm in society.

I wonder what Noah and his family thought when they stepped off the ark. They saw a world that was empty of people and primed for a new beginning. They saw things before and after the judgment of God.

Noah’s family had just been removed from a wicked and degenerate society.
They had experienced a massive flood of water to cleanse the earth of wickedness.

That’s a traumatic event!
They went into the ark as believers surrounded by a wicked society.
They came out of the ark as believers…
but all alone.
Just eight people.
Imagine having the world to yourself!

Now they could freely and openly worship God all day and every day, building a new world full of worship.
But that didn’t happen.
Sin was still a problem.
Sin was waiting at the door.

The first lesson: Worship doesn’t automatically happen just because I’m alone with God.
The second lesson: Distractions and temptations are ever present to draw me away from worshiping God. Sin is always knocking.

You and I have to GET ALONE with God, then CHOOSE to open our mouths and/or hearts, then worship him in spirit and in truth…because He is watching and listening.

Stay worshipful! Purposed worship of the LORD helps us to win against sin.
