“Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.
For he spake, and it was done;
he commanded, and it stood fast.”
Psalm 33:8-9
Have you ever known someone who commanded respect?
People who “command respect” never actually say, “I command you to respect me!”
They don’t have to do that.
They command respect by the way they speak, interact, and move through a room.
Some people are deserving of such respect…especially those of excellent character and humility.
I know many Godly people who carry themselves with such dignity.
It’s not hard to respect them.
When these men or women speak, people listen out of respect and admiration.
Now consider God.
God is the most powerful being who will ever exist. He even made your complex eyeballs which are reading this now. What an awesome God!
He commands respect. Amen?
And yet the One who powerfully SPOKE the world into existence was assaulted and killed by His own creation…
I speak of Jesus Christ.
“All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.”
John 1:3
The Lord spoke these things into existence in the book of Genesis:
“Let there be light.”
“Let there be a firmament.”
“Let the waters be gathered.”
“Let the earth bring forth grass.”
“Let there be lights in the firmament.”
“Let the waters bring forth life.”
“Let the earth bring forth creatures.”
In other words, “God spake, and it was DONE.” (Psalm 33:9)
With all of that power at His disposal,
Jesus Christ could have done ANYTHING when He walked the earth.
Instead, He only did CERTAIN miraculous things to help mankind understand that He was God manifest in the flesh. Then He laid down that mighty power to purchase our redemption.
While hanging on the cross in great pain, He could have cried, “Let there be healing in my body and angels to set me free immediately!”
But He didn’t say that.
Instead, He cried, “It is finished!”
He spoke, and it was done.
Christ was born into His own creation and had the power to rule and reign on Earth. Instead, He allowed rebellious humans to beat Him and crucify Him, because the payment for our sins demanded perfect blood from a spotless lamb.
THAT commands my respect.
What He could have done to save Himself, He didn’t do.
With meekness and love, Jesus allowed Himself to be painfully shredded by a rowdy mob of lost sinners. That’s something to think about every day, friends.
Consider the power of God and the meekness of Christ today. If He hadn’t laid down that power, nobody would be saved and heaven bound.

There’s lots of food for thought here, brother. The meekness and humility of Christ, in particular, is overwhelming. He truly is equal with God, but laid aside this right to identify with is, all the way to the cross. Such love!

I agree, brother…it’s a phenomenal truth to chew on for all of eternity…I’ve been trying to figure out that level of love and meekness, but I honestly have no clue. All I can do is thank God for One who put it all on the line to spare this wretched soul from hell. Amazing, awesome love!

This post is a good meditation indeed Eric. Worldly respect is a very different way from Godly respect; the effect of the first is temporal and the effect of the second is eternal. May we always seek the latter!
God bless you today brother 🙏
