Praying for Truth

How much truth do you know? If you were to write down all of the things that you know and understand, how many pages would it take until your wisdom ran dry?

Some people are fools who fancy themselves to be quite wise, and some people are genuinely brilliant. There are many incredibly learned men and women who have spent thousands of hours studying medicine, history, mathematics, engineering, and science. However, they can only reach a certain point in their knowledge and understanding.

Unfortunately, there are no colleges, universities, or institutions that teach ALL knowledge and truth for ALL subjects. The good news is that we have a God who knows all things and has given us His Spirit to lead and guide us into all truth.

The better question may be, “How much truth do you want to know in life?” Very often we want to know things that benefit us personally. We also want to know the things that will ensure our comfort and survival. In other words, we usually only want to know the things that we want to know.

Do you want to know all the unpleasant but necessary truths? Do you have eyes and ears to receive the true things that God wants you to know, even if they interrupt your preconceived notions about your life and this world?

Consider your own salvation experience. You were blissfully unaware and/or woefully ignorant regarding your spiritual condition. Someone, somewhere, presented you with the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ and you understood that your sins were paving your path straight to Hell. You were confronted with truth and had to make a decision regarding your entire life’s course and purpose. Wasn’t that an unpleasant truth that interrupted your preconceived notions about your life and this world?

It is very likely that someone was praying that you would be saved. Perhaps they were praying that the LORD would bring the light of truth to your blinded eyes. Thank God for those who prayed for truth to reach your heart!

Did you ever wonder who was praying for Saul of Tarsus to be saved? Saul thought he was pleasing God by persecuting and arresting the Christians. He was a brilliant man, with a strong Hebrew pedigree, who knew the law forward and backward. However, God interrupted his preconceived notions and literally blinded him on the Damascus road. (Acts 22:8-10) Saul realized the truth that he was persecuting not just the church, but the Lord Jesus Christ himself.

Saul of Tarsus became Paul the Apostle and went on to change the world as a bold witness for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Here’s what happened: People prayed and truth entered in!

Ask God to open the blinded eyes of those you know and love who are lost. They need to know the truth about Jesus Christ.

As for you, pray that any erroneous preconceived notions you have about life will be identified and replaced with truth by the Holy Spirit. We are all more short-sighted and naive than we’d like to admit. Let us pray that God’s Word and His truth will saturate us completely.

  1. Found this lovely quote by John Newton regarding truth : “The Bible is the grand repository of truth. It is the complete system of divine truth, to which nothing can be added, and from which nothing can be taken, with impunity.”

God bless you today brother 🙏
