Rejoicing in Truth

Paul speaks in depth about love in his letter to the Corinthian church. In verses 4–5, he shows what Christian love should look like as we walk through this world—patient, kind, humble, and selfless. Love doesn’t envy, boast, or behave rudely. It doesn’t seek its own or get easily provoked. Then Paul adds something that brings it all back to the foundation of why we love in the first place: our love rejoices in the truth.

Truth should bring rejoicing. The world teaches us to rejoice in money, fame, possessions, health, and glamour—but all of those things fade. They aren’t worthy of our deepest joy. Rejoicing means more than a moment of happiness; it’s a deep delight that comes from the core of who we are. And for believers, that core is where the Holy Spirit dwells.

There are many superficial things that might bring a temporary smile, but Christians have something deeper happening inside us. The Holy Spirit of Truth lives in our hearts, constantly pointing us toward Truth Himself—Jesus Christ (John 14:6). Knowing that we walk through this life in a personal relationship with Truth incarnate is cause for continual rejoicing.

Because of Christ, we no longer have to chase the world’s illusions or bow to its lies. We rejoice not in what fades, but in what’s eternal. Truth never changes and the love of Christ never fails. And when we rejoice in truth, we are rejoicing in Christ Himself.
