What a Ride!

If anyone’s life could be described as a whirlwind, it would be the apostle Paul’s. Before he ever preached Christ, Paul was actively opposing Him—hunting down believers, approving arrests, and trying to crush the early church. Then came the Damascus Road. In a blinding flash of God’s glory, Paul was stopped in his tracks and temporarily blinded.

That moment tells us two powerful things. First, Paul had absolutely gotten God’s attention by attacking His people. Second, God saw enormous potential in this man—so much so that it took physical blindness to redirect Paul so he could finally see his true purpose.

What followed was, quite simply, a wild ride.

Once surrendered, Paul’s life became a relentless journey of service to the Lord. God used him to take the gospel to the world—Jews and Gentiles alike. His path was anything but easy. It led through arrests, beatings, imprisonments, shipwrecks, hunger, danger, and rejection. Yet city after city, sea after sea, and finally all the way to Rome, Paul remained faithful. He could have run. He could have quit. But he listened when the Lord spoke on the Damascus Road, and he never turned back.

There has never been another missionary quite like Paul, but his story invites us to reflect on our own.

Do you remember your Damascus Road moment? Maybe it wasn’t dramatic. Maybe there was no blinding light or audible voice. But was there a time when God clearly got your attention—when He redirected your heart and gave you new direction? God has a specific plan for you, my friend. It involves serving Him with your unique gifts, in your unique calling. Your ride may not look like Paul’s, but it matters just as much.

Paul’s journey was wild and expansive—but above all, it was obedient right to the end!

  1. Thank you for sharing this encouraging message today brother Eric. I might be a bit greedy for I can name two personal Damascus Road experiences. One was my redemption through a book in 1985, the other was facing life-threatening illness in the 90s…that really makes one take stock of what matters in eternal life. These certainly changed my direction to one of serving God first. In all things, God is Good!

God bless you and your family today brother 🙏

  2. Paul…what a transformation! I am so grateful that he preached the gospel to the Gentiles. He definitely suffered for his faith yet remained faithful to Christ. Let that be an example for us. We have to be all in…no serving God halfway when it’s convenient for us.
