“But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof, and darkness shall pursue his enemies.”
Nahum 1:8
When the word “flood” is used in the Bible, it’s nearly always in a negative context.
This verse from the book of Nahum follows that pattern, but it’s not a negative threat intended for His children.
It’s a warning to God’s enemies who seek to harm His children.
When I was young, I used to walk our dog on a leash…a short leash.
She never learned to heel and would try her best to lunge forward and tear my arm out of the socket…but she was still on a leash and held in check.
In like fashion, evil is allowed to operate in this world to a certain degree. But there is a point when God steps in to obliterate the demonic operations that assault humanity.
At that point, those who have operated in darkness, pushing a flood of filth on society and corrupting the minds of men, will understand what true darkness really means.
God knows how to pursue His enemies.
He created justice and judgment.
Thank God today if you’re a child of God, saved by His grace through faith in Jesus Christ. You’re on His good side.
If you’re an enemy of God, you’re tied to a railroad track by your own sins, and you have the freight train of God’s judgment bearing down on you.
Cry out to Jesus to save you.
He wants to save you from destruction…the destruction that will come with His justice and judgment.
If you’re disheartened by the flood of injustice in the world, remember that God holds the gavel and will get the last laugh over all evildoers.
“Lord, I pray that a flood of justice and judgment will overtake the works of demonic darkness in the world today. I’m asking you to remind the world that you hold the leash on evil. Please give a swift tug on that leash today, however you see fit. In Jesus’ name, amen.”
