“Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man’s device.”
Acts 17:29
I admire jewelry.
I like to see how people fashion gold and silver into intricate patterns and styles.
I like to see gemstones of all types that are cut and set into jewelry.
All that value, time, and craftsmanship comes together to create pendants, bracelets, necklaces, rings, and earrings.
Jewelry is created by men.
Men are created by God.
Which is the most valuable?
The jewelry, the men, or God?
God is worth more than anything.
All of the diamond wedding rings, gold bars, and precious gemstones you can collect will never equal the value of God.
God’s value is on another level.
In the Old Testament, the Israelites left the bondage of Egypt and became rebellious toward Moses and God.
They wanted to revert back to the familiar ways of Egypt, worshipping a gold or stone idol that they could see and touch.
So, they made a golden idol to worship as their God.
We know that’s foolish, but what they did was human nature.
They ascribed the value and worth that only belongs to God to something tangible…and the best they could do was create a golden animal that wasn’t even alive.
True faith in God can be hard because this world has plenty of cool and dazzling things which satisfy our fleshly definition of “valuable”.
But this is where perspective matters…something TRULY valuable is able to retain its value forever.
It’s “value-able.”
The only one who can satisfy that definition is God. He has eternal value AND has the ability to create valuable things.
Everything else: Porsches, diamonds, mansions, private jets, and golden idols…they’ll all rust, corrode, and burn one day.
Only God and souls will remain, and those are the two things we’re told to keep our hearts focused on.
Stay focused on God’s value.
Let HIM dazzle you.
