When Service Becomes Mundane

“Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.”
Titus 2:14

I’m not a big fan of team building workshops and exercises where coworkers have to work together to build unity.

I get the idea: Take a bunch of people from a company and have them solve a problem together. That focused group effort, which is hopefully successful, will transfer back to the work environment, and productivity and morale will then soar to new heights.

To me it’s kind of fake.
I work with 15 people and none of us want to be in the office everyday…not even the owner.
It’s not that I hate work. I love to work.
But no matter how many team-building seminars and break-out sessions we attend, there is a limit to how much zeal shows up to work on Monday.

In the verse above, Paul told Titus that Christ redeemed people should be peculiar (distinctly different than the norm) and zealous of good works.

When was the last time you got giddy about doing the Lord’s work?
Would people say that you have a zeal to serve the Lord?
Are you excited to serve the Lord with fellow Christians?

Sometimes church can feel like a business seminar where people are forced to work together to solve problems and accomplish things.
But once in a while, when some believers gather together, there is a zealous desire to accomplish His purpose and plans.

When that happens it’s a sweet thing, just as Christ intended.
If I’m grumbling, whining, and complaining about serving God, then it’s because I’m more interested in serving myself and “playing Christian”.

Be peculiar, standout for God.
Knowing the King of Kings and serving Him are amazing privileges.
I don’t want to drag my heels while He pushes me toward my purpose, I want to be easily led to fulfill my purpose.

Keep your zeal up and your armor on.
Christianity is a team event, but one that first motivates the individual from the inside out.
Let’s do something good for the King today.

  1. We need as a matter of urgency to be on fire to serve our Lord and Saviour; as you point out correctly it must begin at the individual level. If we find others equally zealous for the Kingdom praise God! May we pray for and encourage one another each day.

God bless you today brother 🙏
