Three Things About the Good Shepherd

“He shall feed his flock like a shepherd: he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young.”
Isaiah 40:11

Jesus Christ has a lot of compassion for the weak, the vulnerable, and the needy sheep in His flock.

The verse above highlights three specific ways that Christ extends His love to those in need.

“He feeds his flock.”
A good shepherd makes sure his flock is well-fed. Are you physically and spiritually fed today?
Every meal eaten comes from the Lord, it’s not chance or luck that we have food to eat.
By the same token, every message from God’s man and God’s Word is spiritual bread meant to nourish our soul.

“He gathers and carries the lambs.”
Jesus loves the little children.
He told his disciples not to keep little kids from coming to Him for interaction…”for of such is the Kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 19:14)

Jesus doesn’t want kids to just wander about in this dark and perverse world, He wants to gather them and shield them from sin and danger. The best thing we can do for kids is introduce them to the Good Shepherd who gave His life for them.

“He gently leads those with young.”
Jesus doesn’t just love kids.
He also loves those who lovingly lead kids across the battlefield of life.
It’s one thing for adults to try to navigate life, but to slow down and lead clueless kids through a sinful world takes extra time, patience, and effort.

Jesus understands such sacrifice.
He gently leads those who are parenting and teaching little ones for His honor and glory.

Christ is so compassionate.
He delights to help the weak sheep in His flock, and he has a heart for those who do the same.
