The Principal Thing

“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.”
Proverbs 4:7

Wisdom is the principal thing.
Not facts.
Not quips.
Not talking points.

Not ideas.
Not generalizations.
Not factoids.

Not money.
Not fame.
Not things.

Wisdom is the principal thing.
I can have all the facts in the world, but if I don’t have the wisdom to apply those facts, I’m sunk.

We live in an age of drive-by opinions. Our society has departed from the long-form “discussion and debate” model.

People leave their houses with a few factoids loaded on their lips for every issue of the day…and when those are fired off they’re done with the discussion.

I don’t ever want to be “that guy”…
it’s far better to admit that I’m not wise enough to offer an opinion than to cloak my ignorance in factoids.

Wisdom is the principal thing.
Christians should be the wisest people on the planet…we’re hooked up to the source of all wisdom: the Holy Spirit of Almighty God.

Get wise. Be wise. Stay wise.

  1. Eric this may be a simple message, but it is a very important one indeed in these days of instant knowledge and “factoids”. Wisdom has certainly fallen out of fashion in recent years, but as Solomon tells us in his proverbs it is to be sought and prized. May we daily search the Scriptures for the priceless gems of holy wisdom.

May our Father God continue to guide and bless you today brother 🙏

    1. Thanks brother, I’ve actually been chewing on it this morning…I think that mainstream media has done wisdom a disservice with their 30-second news cycles and stories. There are major things happening in the world that deserve far more than a 30 second news spot, yet that’s how most people get their information.

I have some very old American schoolbooks from the early 1900’s…one English grammar book for elementary school kids reads like a college book today…AND it’s full of Bible verses/stories as teaching examples.

We’ve been dumbed down in society, and wisdom has been shunned. Today’s wisdom runs shallow…thank God that His wisdom still runs deep!

  2. Couldn’t agree more! This is definitely a great reminder for me. I often pray for knowledge but we need wisdom so we know how to discern and apply. Wonderful post, God bless you…Robin
