Too Many Nuts?

“Whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” James 4:14

Busy, busy, busy…

That’s what I think whenever I watch the chipmunks underneath our bird feeder…busy, busy, busy.

They run in like little jitterbugs, darting toward the seed and whole peanuts we’ve scattered on the ground. Then they camp out for a few minutes, stuffing groceries into their cheeks. How can their cheeks hold so much?

I saw one chipmunk grab an entire peanut in the shell and inspect it like an assembly line worker. He (or she) then stuffed it into the cheek, forcing the entire side of its face to become peanut shaped. I burst out laughing when it turned toward me with the end of the peanut sticking out like a massive stogie. Then it looked around for more peanuts!

Chipmunks don’t have downtime when they’re awake. Lately, I’ve felt the exact same way. I am working all day and working on the house all night. And besides church, I’m working on the house all weekend long.

I love work, but I’m tired of working. I’m tired of not having time to write, go for a bike ride, or just plain relax. My body hurts from crouching in a crawlspace every day. Vacation can’t come soon enough.

Ever been there? Ever been a busy chipmunk with too much to do while your life flees like a vapor? Do you ever feel like there are too many peanuts and too little time?

If you’re overwhelmed today, ask God to help you prioritize your tasks…He knows what needs to get done today, and in what order. The Lord understands that this life is fleeting like a vapor for busy chipmunks like us. Call on Him today, He cares for you! (1 Peter 5:7)

  1. It’s amazing how much we can relate to the hustle and bustle of those chipmunks! Your description painted such a vivid picture of their industrious antics. It’s so true that sometimes life feels like a whirlwind of tasks and responsibilities, leaving little room for the things we love or simply some downtime. Your reminder to seek guidance from God in prioritizing our tasks is timely and comforting. It’s a great perspective to remember that even in our busiest seasons, there’s wisdom in seeking divine guidance for clarity and balance. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and the smile-inducing chipmunk tales!

    1. I can see how you relate to the busy chipmunks, and I can relate too brother Eric. Lately things have been busy here between church, writing and family…I am not very good at juggling stuff lol! May our Father God continue to guide us in the use of our talents and time, that we serve Him fruitfully each day.🙏

      1. Dear Alan,

I can definitely relate to the busy chipmunks analogy, Brother Eric! Life has been quite the balancing act for me as well, with church responsibilities, writing commitments, and family duties all vying for attention. It’s comforting to know I’m not alone in feeling overwhelmed by the juggle. May our Father God continue to provide us with guidance and strength, helping us to wisely use our talents and time to serve Him effectively each day. Let’s keep supporting each other in prayer and encouragement as we navigate these busy seasons. 🙏

        Blessings,
        S Kumar
