2025? Lag, Lunge, or be Led.

I love Joshua 1:9 because it reminds me of a new year and open road, full of possibilities and opportunities. Joshua was set to (finally) lead God’s people into the promised land. I can only picture in my mind everyone looking around at each other as they prepared to cross the Jordan River.

“No more fooling around, this is it.”

“No more talk, let’s get moving.”

“Eyes forward, no looking back.”

“Make sure you’re right with God.”

My friends, the most important thing in 2025 is walking WITH God.

Have you ever seen a stubborn dog that refused to walk on a leash? The owner has to literally drag it to get it moving. While comical to the outsider, the owner is never impressed with such disobedience. They’re angry, frustrated, and flustered as the dog lags behind, wasting time and energy.

Conversely, have you ever seen a dog that lunges forward while walking? Such unrestrained vigor is unhelpful, unwelcome, and painful for everyone involved. A dog like that has selfish disregard and disrespect for its owner.

The most beautiful sight is to see a well-trained, obedient canine confidently being led by their owner down the road. Both parties are satisfied, and expectations are met. This is the picture in my mind as the Israelites crossed the river Jordan to enter the promised land. They didn’t lunge forward, they didn’t lag behind, they waited for the right time and simply marched forward in obedience.

God has expectations for me this year. Those expectations are between me and Him. The same is true for you. Embrace the bond with your father and work with Him to complete your goals together without lunging ahead or lagging behind Him. Our obedience to Him will be a beautiful picture to those who view our lives.

  3. I love your chosen scripture brother, in fact it is the scripture of my Bible cover which I ponder often. Your analogy of a dog on a leash is excellent; having had many dogs in my life this makes sense. Thank you for sharing this encouragement with us today.     1. lol, that’s a lot of dogs!
      But then I think of God trying to walk all of us “Christian canines” and am thankful his skills exceed the Dog Whisperer.😆

      1. Thanks for your kindness! And your humor! We have a 142 acre ranch in the heart of the Colorado Rockies, and the dogs all help out. So they have to be trained to obey commands so they actually help, and not get hurt. So on that note, “Whose a good boy?” God says, “You are!” 😆
