Jesus Cracked the Whip

Reposted from September 2023

“And when he had made a scourge of small cords, he drove them all out of the temple, and the sheep, and the oxen; and poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew the tables;”
John 2:15

This is one of those events that I want to see in heaven’s movie theatre.

Jesus watched as these liars and deceivers played games with God’s people who would come to the temple with their sacrificial offerings.

If the people didn’t have an animal, the money changers would be sure to get them what they needed…for the right price of course.

“Hey friend, we have a sale on pure white doves! These are the only doves that God Himself is pleased to accept…but you have to act now, otherwise our supply will run out!”

“Get your sheep! Pure white, spotless sheep here!”

Can you imagine going to church and you have to wade through a bazaar filled with animals, wares, crates, and people shouting like carnival workers?

Jesus saw this madness.
So, He braided a whip together to use against those who had turned the temple into a money-making carnival.

And then He went in swinging.
This is the judge and the justice that Christians like…it’s okay, you’re allowed to like this story.

We’re not supposed to desire a quiet Jesus who politely asks people to exit the temple…when they’re done selling their animals and swindling the public, of course.

Jesus had to get their attention, and only force could do it.
He didn’t beat them to death.
He didn’t kill anyone.
I’m sure no animals were harmed.

He DID sting their hide and wreck their plans.
He DID let everyone know that their corrupt business didn’t belong in the temple.

Just wait until He comes back to deal with those satanic family dynasties who have used and abused this planet for generations.
Jesus will do more than flip some tables and whoop some tail:

“And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.”
Revelation 19:5

Jesus Christ is going to own things.
There will be no doubt as to
who is in charge.
It’s going to be epic.

Nothing can stop who is coming.

  1. Hollywood and the world have sold us the image of a soft/weak Jesus, which is far from the truth of our Lord. Their portrayal of Jesus has put off generations of men, when the truth is that our Lord was a tough man – a man’s man. He knew how to be kind to the rejected, but the scene in the temple shows us His righteous anger and toughness. I am honoured to say He is my Captain and Lord! Thank you for sharing this post today, God bless you today brother Eric 🙏

    1. You’re right, there has been a tendency to remove Jesus as a firm Judge between right and wrong, and instead represent him as a tolerant hippie who was soft spoken , fair-skinned, and feminine.

He was our example of courage, bravery, and boldness… a man’s man who walked through a land of vipers and faced them all for us.

God bless and keep you today brother Alan!
