The Living Water

Water is the most essential element for sustaining life. The human body is made up of about sixty percent water. It regulates temperature, cushions organs, aids digestion, carries nutrients, and quenches thirst. Without water, life quickly weakens and fades. Every bodily function depends upon it.

At Jacob’s well, a Samaritan woman came seeking the ordinary water her body needed. But she had no idea who was asking her for a drink. The One speaking to her was offering more than refreshment for her body. He was offering Himself as Living Water for her soul.

What water is to the body, Christ is to the spirit. Just as water gives movement to stiff muscles, the Living Water gives life and strength to hardened souls. Just as water cleanses impurities, the Living Water purifies hearts that are saturated in sin. Just as water satisfies thirst, the Living Water quenches the deepest longings of the human heart.

Every drink from this world’s wells eventually runs dry. Success, wealth, pleasure, and relationships may seem refreshing, but the thirst always returns. Only Jesus Christ offers a fountain that never runs out, springing up into everlasting life.

If your soul is parched and longing, hear His promise again: “Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst.” Drink deeply from Christ, the Living Water, and find refreshment that endures forever.
