P.R.A.Y.

My Pastor recently shared an acronym for the word “pray”, and it was so good I decided to pay it forward. I wish I’d have considered this many years ago, but better late than never!

P – Praise
“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.”(Psalm 100:4)

Every prayer should begin by lifting our eyes off ourselves and onto the greatness of God. Praise sets the tone of our hearts. When we worship Him for who He is—holy, mighty, loving, and faithful—our perspective shifts, and we remember that nothing is impossible for the Lord we serve.

R – Repent
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)

Before asking God for anything, we must clear the barrier of sin. Repentance is not a formality—it is a cleansing. It’s an honest turning from sin, trusting God’s mercy to restore fellowship. Confession humbles us and brings us back into step with the Spirit.

A – Ask
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7)

Our Father invites us to bring every burden, every request, and every need before Him. Asking is not demanding—it is trusting that God hears and cares. He delights when His children depend on Him for daily bread, direction, strength, and help.

Y – Yield
“Nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” (Luke 22:42)

The final step of prayer is surrender. We may not always understand God’s answers, but we can trust His wisdom. Yielding reminds us that He is Lord, and His will is always best.

I hope that you have a wonderful day today, and may your prayers be joined with the saints of God to be a sweet savor in Gods kingdom!

  1. P.R.A.Y. is a great acronym indeed Eric. I remember it from my early years as a new believer when some old saint taught me it. Another acronym worth knowing is the one I use in my daily Bible study notebook – S.O.A.P. which stands for Scripture, Observations, Application, and Prayer. Thank you for sharing this reminder with me today, God bless you today brother 🙏

  2. This is a great way to remember how to structure our prayers. It follows the example of the Lord’s prayer. My pastor spoke about praise last Sunday and how it is a mighty weapon to defeat this present darkness. 🗡️🛡️
