Otherworldly!

The disciples had been on the water many times before. Several of them were seasoned fishermen who knew storms well—the sound of violent wind, the pull of crashing waves, the panic that sets in when control is lost. But the night Jesus calmed the sea was unlike anything they had ever faced. This storm felt overwhelming. Water filled the boat. Fear filled their hearts. And somehow, Jesus slept.

When they woke Him in desperation, Jesus rose and did what no man could do. He rebuked the wind and the waves—and immediately there was calm. Not a slow settling. Not a gradual quiet. One moment chaos, the next perfect peace. The disciples stood frozen, staring at the sea and then at Him, whispering, “What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey Him?” (Matthew 8:27).

They weren’t merely amazed—they were shaken. Men don’t speak to creation and expect obedience. Men don’t command storms; they are at their mercy. One preacher later observed that they knew Jesus wasn’t just another man because men on earth don’t create calm—they create storms. History proves it. Conflict, unrest, and chaos follow human rule. But Jesus brought peace with a word.

That moment on the boat revealed what had been true from the very beginning. The One who ruled the sea was the same One who had entered the world under miraculous circumstances. The authority that silenced the storm belonged to the baby once laid in a manger. Heaven’s power wrapped in human flesh.

At Christmas, we remember that God sent His Son into a broken, storm-tossed world—not to add to the chaos, but to rescue us from it. The baby in the manger was already otherworldly. And years later, standing in a boat on a raging sea, He proved it.

He is not like us—
but He came for us.

What an amazing story!
