“A reproof entereth more into a wise man than an hundred stripes into a fool.”
Proverbs 17:10
How do you handle being corrected?
Most people I know don’t like to be corrected.
In 7th grade my English teacher taught us a phrase called “constructive criticism”.
The idea is that when you read someone else’s writing you could offer ways to improve their work that would make them better writers…rather than just calling out every mistake. Improvement is the goal.
God is in the business of constructive criticism…
He wants to make us better, sharper, smarter, more mature, more refined, more effective, and more efficient.
He gave us the perfect example of Jesus Christ to emulate, the perfect roadmap of scripture to follow, and the perfect leadership of the Holy Spirit to guide us.
Following Gods plan of correction can be hard.
We all have a selfish bent and want to do things our own way.
Any correction usually grates against our pride, and it’s hard for many people to admit that they were wrong and made a mistake.
Humility demonstrates wisdom.
Humility admits wrongdoing.
Humility means willing to learn how to do something correctly, even if it takes longer and requires more effort and patience.
Humility gives God the steering wheel.
Stubborn pride has to be whipped into obedience, and that’s painful for everyone involved. I’m thankful that God still corrects me, even if it hurts at the moment. I need correction.
Let God and others correct you if you’re wrong.
The world respects those who can
admit fault and take correction…because it’s a rare trait and demonstrates wisdom.

Love this: “Humility gives God the steering wheel.” 🙂
