The Sun and the Son

The gray and cold beach in December

“And there will no longer be anynight; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illuminate them; and they will reign forever and ever.” Revelation 22:5

We visited North Myrtle Beach last December and took a walk on the beach. The weather was quite chilly and it was made colder by the strong ocean breeze.

My wife and I walked and talked with my mother-in-law, the three of us bundled up and plodding along trying to stay warm. I lost track of how many times we asked each other, “Do you want to turn around and go back? If you’re too cold, we can go back.”

But each time, we’d decide to just keep going. We eventually walked our desired mile or so, and then we turned around to head back.

After a few minutes of walking back, something miraculous happened. The gray skies parted and the sun shone down on the beach…it was an amazing sight!

The sun changes everything!

Suddenly, everything was brighter. We felt new warmth, new energy, new excitement, new vigor…and we were all smiling. As we passed other brave souls on the beach, we saw them smiling, too.

My friend, this life is a gray beach and it can get mighty cold. But praise God there is unspeakable joy awaiting you if Christ is your Savior. Just keep going, don’t turn back. Walk your distance…don’t turn back now.

God will put some wind at your back and a “pep in your step“, just when you need it…and He will use fellow believers to help motivate you to press on through life’s challenges.

And when our time is done on life’s cold beaches, He will transport us to a realm of pure warmth and joy. We’ll be smiling like never before in the warmth of the Son. It will be worth it all one day, and you’ll be eternally grateful you followed Christ in life.

Keep going and keep your armor on.

“These things I have spoken to you so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33

  1. Thank you for sharing this encouraging post today brother Eric. It reminded me of a time when my daughter was complaining of the cold wind one day…my answer was “walk faster!”

God bless you today brother 🙏
