Come Quickly!

The weight of this world can feel crushing. Every day brings another headline, another tragedy, another reminder that something is deeply broken. Stress, fear, and constant bad news have a way of dragging our hearts down until hope feels distant. In those moments, we often forget an eternal truth: this flesh is temporary, and this world is not our final home.

Scripture reminds us, “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory” (2 Corinthians 4:17). What feels overwhelming now is not forever. We are travelers passing through, citizens of a coming Kingdom.

Yet our hope is more than simply leaving this world one day. Our hope is that Jesus Christ is coming back. He promised it. “And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself” (John 14:3). Christ will return to overcome, to rule, and to reign. The devil will be destroyed. The evil beast system will fall. The Antichrist will be defeated. “The God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly” (Romans 16:20). Jesus will reign in righteousness and truth (Revelation 19:11–16)!

This return is not uncertain or delayed by chance. There is an appointed time on God’s calendar—down to the very second—when Christ will return exactly as the Father has determined. Heaven is not anxious. God is not late!

So do not lose hope! When the darkness feels thick and heavy, lift your eyes. Pray with expectation and longing, just as Scripture ends: “He who testifies to these things says, ‘Surely I am coming quickly.’ Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!” (Revelation 22:20).

May our prayers echo daily: “Come quickly, Lord Jesus, and let Your return vanquish the evil around us and restore all things!”

  1. Thank you for this reminder of hope today, Eric. This is not our final home. We can look forward to the return of Christ! Until then, we need to shine His light for others to see through the darkness. “The God of peace will crush Satan under your feet shortly.” That reminds me of a song by Crowder, “Crushing Snakes.” It is inspiring!
