Happy Thanksgiving Day! It’s the perfect day to share one of God’s greatest promises to us…
“His steadfast love endures forever”
I’ve enjoyed many delicious turkey dinners with all the trimmings, but nothing is more satisfying to me than the promise of God’s love.
I’ve often tried to picture God in my head. As physical beings, we tend to humanize spiritual things, including God. I’ve seen renderings of God as a powerful being launching lightning bolts onto the Earth, or as an all-wise, bearded sage stoically watching this planet. The latter is usually my mental image.
But this Thanksgiving, as millions of Americans “head home” for Thanksgiving, my mind is drawn to a Scriptural example of God’s appearance and His steadfast love for us. Here’s what happened when one wayward son returned home:
“I will arise and go to my father, and I will say to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you.
I am no longer worthy to be called your son. Treat me as one of your hired servants.”
And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.
And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.
But the father said to his servants, Bring quickly the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet.
And bring the fattened calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate.
For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to celebrate.” Luke 11:18-24
Our Father loves us with the same steadfast love, my friends! He wants every soul to return home to Him through faith in Christ…I’m so thankful for His goodness and love today!

Another beautiful promise! Every time I hear the story of the prodigal son, I remember when my brother entered a Christian rehab program for his drug and alcohol addiction. During the program, he couldn’t have any visitors for a while. But, the staff took a group of men, including my brother, to sing at a church service at my parents’ church. My Dad stood in the lobby, looking longingly out the church window for the bus to arrive. He couldn’t wait to hug his son! It was like seeing the parable of the prodigal son in real life!
