What the Father Sees

It’s not unusual for young kids to be sneaky. They slip into the pantry for cookies, hide toys they don’t want to share, or quietly test boundaries when they think no one is watching. But why? What are they sneaking around for?

And it’s not just kids. A raccoon creeps through garbage under cover of night. A dog inches toward an unattended plate. An employee stretches a break and quietly slips back in. Even on larger scales, people conceal motives, hide actions, and operate in the shadows.

Why is sneaky, shady behavior so common?

At the root, we live in a fallen world marked by fear, scarcity, and self-preservation. Whether it’s an animal searching for food or a person guarding their interests, there’s a shared instinct: protect yourself, get what you need, avoid being seen. Fear and desire drive creativity—even to extremes. I once saw what jail inmates could turn into weapons—like a single sheet of newspaper secretly rolled tightly and sharpened into a shank. Why? Fear of harm and the need to survive potential violence.

But while much of creation moves in secrecy, nothing is hidden from the Father.

He sees everything—every motive, every action, every hidden place. He is not on a distant golf course or distracted by internet cat videos. He is fully present, watching over both the good and the evil. This truth can feel sobering, even unsettling—but it is also deeply comforting. The same eyes that see wrongdoing also see faithfulness, quiet obedience, and sincere hearts.

So the question isn’t whether God sees us. He does. Every hair and heartbeat is accounted for.

The real question is: what are we focused on today? Are we living as though we must grasp, hide, and protect? Or are we living openly before the One who already knows—and still loves us?

Today, step out of the shadows. Walk in the light. The Father is watching—and He is rooting for you to walk in victory and truth!

  1. To me, someone who often feels invisible, it’s comforting to know that God sees me. I love that “He is not on a distant golf course or distracted by internet cat videos!” Thank you for that reminder today, Eric. Have a blessed day!
