Plot Twist! Part One…

Have you ever read a really good novel? One of the hallmarks of a great novel or story is when the author drops a huge and intriguing plot twist into the story. The characters are known, the action is steady, the storyline is predictable, then BAM!!! Plot twist!!

Where did THAT come from?! It makes me dig deeper into the story, that’s for sure!

Lately, when I consider Jesus Christ and his arrival into this world, I hear the words “plot twist” loud and clear in my heart.

Throughout the Old Testament, mankind was on a sinful track of self-destruction. Moses received the law and God’s people followed it for a short while, but eventually the proper sacrificial offerings and obedience to God were corrupted and neglected.

Who would come and make things right? A wealthy, popular, charismatic leader loved by the world?

No, God gave Isaiah a heads up that there was going to be a plot twist in “his-story”…and that plot twist would introduce a man unlike any other who would leave people scratching their heads in wonder and awe.

How could a humble man of sorrow be the King of Kings? How could we receive one as Savior who was himself despised and rejected? How could God in the flesh be wounded and killed by His own creation? How could His cruel death be necessary to offer us eternal life? How could Isaiah know 700 years in advance that the Savior would come to die for humanity?

God is the ultimate author of life and He has worked into humanity the most powerful plot twist ever written…introducing the most important person who ever walked the planet: Jesus Christ. Just when Satan thought that humanity was cooked “extra crispy”, along came Christ to destroy the works of the devil in a most unique and unusual fashion.

  1. This is a great way of looking at the magnificent Lord and Saviour, and His victorious work of Redemption – He was unexpected. Indeed men are still trying to understand God’s Divine plot twist on eternity. Happy Christmas to you and your family brother Eric. 🙏

    1. Yes that is a great word which perfectly describes God’s divine plot twist. All of humanity “won the lottery” when Christ was born and when he died. Sadly most will never believe enough to claim Him as their treasure. Thanks for reminding me of that great word, and have a very Merry Christmas Heather!

    1. Rest assured it is written and in the process of being revealed. Maybe it won’t be desired (like Covid or a hurricane), but it will lead to a greater revelation of His glory and somehow benefit His people for ultimate good. (Romans 8:28)
Or, maybe it will just be good, period!
Either way, we’re part of it!
      Merry Christmas, Pastor Pete!
