The Busiest Week

Some days are busier than others, and then you have entire weeks that are nothing but a blur of stress and activity.

Last week was such a week.

We have two guinea pigs, Melvin and Midnight. They’re brothers who have never been apart. Midnight got a cyst on his back that abscessed and ruptured.

That happened on a Saturday and no vets could take him in to help him out. So Monday morning I called our veterinarian from work. She said if I could get him there by 10:00 am she would look at him.

Of course, my manager was on vacation and I was tasked with answering his emails, putting out his fires, and trying to do my own work which was quickly approaching deadlines.

So I went into the owners office and gave him my dilemma. He sat chain smoking, despite having a nasty respiratory infection, and looked incredulous as I explained having to rush a guinea pig to the veterinarian…but in the end shook his head and let me leave.

I went home, packed up the pig, told his brother not to worry, and drove thirty minutes north to this little country doctor. They gave me oral pain meds, antibiotics, and special cream for him, then scheduled a surgery for today…Saint Patrick’s Day.

Once home I had to wrestle with him to get a tiny syringe in his mouth and pump the meds in. I did that every 12 hours for ten days, and applied cream to his wound.

At work, my only employee caught the flu and ended up missing three days. I had to do his job, do my job, check someone else’s job to meet a deadline, answer emails, coordinate online meetings, and try to maintain my sanity.

A crazy week, and I know that many have it so much worse. But I’m so thankful that no matter how much stress and activity hits our lives, we have a Savior who cares.

Jesus wants us to have peace and rest, even when life gets hectic. Trials have a way of causing us to draw close to God…so draw close to Him, friends! He wants to shoulder your heavy burdens today.

    1. Thanks brother Alan! I appreciate the prayers for Midnight today, I’m about to pack him up and take him to the vet soon. My wife is a bit more anxious than I am.
“That’s my baby” are the words of the morning…😆❤️…
      God bless you brother!
