Adopted By God

Adoption is one of the greatest blessings in this world. Every year, thousands of children are welcomed into loving families and given new names, homes, and futures. What once seemed uncertain is replaced with security, love, and belonging. That is a beautiful picture of what God has done for us in Christ.

Though many say, “We’re all God’s children,” the Bible does not teach that. Scripture tells us that all people are God’s creation (Colossians 1:16) and that He loves the whole world (John 3:16). But only those who receive Christ by faith are given “the right to become children of God” (John 1:12). Before salvation, the Bible describes us as “by nature children of wrath” (Ephesians 2:3) and even aligned with the enemy (John 8:44). It is not until we are born again that we are adopted into God’s family.

Through Christ’s sacrifice, we are brought into a relationship with the Father that is not natural but spiritual. Galatians 4:5 says that God sent His Son “to redeem those under the law, that we might receive the full rights of sons.” Romans 8:15 reminds us that we did not receive a spirit of fear, but of adoption, by which we can now cry, “Abba, Father.” As His children, we are also heirs—joint-heirs with Christ Himself (Romans 8:17).

Jesus is the only begotten Son of God, yet because of His death and resurrection, we have been given the privilege of adoption. What an incredible blessing to know that through Him, we are loved, secure, and forever part of God’s family.

  1. Excellent post on adoption Eric, thank you brother! You make a valuable point that we are only God’s children if we accept His Gracious gift through His Son – that is spot on indeed. In fact this resonates with tomorrow’s Psalm Sunday on Psalm 119:171. God bless you richly today brother 🙏

  2. Amen brother Alan! The more I pondered adoption the more I realized it needed to be shared! What an amazing fact of Christianity….that we could be adopted into the family of the Creator! It may take eternity to fully understand my adopted state, but by faith I’m grateful to be called a child of God. Have a blessed day brother!👍🏻🙏

  3. Amen, Eric! It IS incredible to think that the almighty, perfect God of the universe would want to adopt us. Praise God he loves us and makes us a part of his family forever–when we invite his Son Jesus into our lives. Such a glorious reality to contemplate!
