The best chefs taste their creations often. With trained palates, they can detect herbs, spices, fat, sugar, and perhaps most importantly…salt. For many dishes, salt is added a pinch at a time until the flavor is perfected. Too little and the dish is bland. Too much and it becomes inedible. A skilled chef knows how to add just the right amount of salt to bring every other ingredient to life.
When Jesus calls His followers the “salt of the earth,” He does so for a reason. God has the only perfect palate for this world. He knows exactly what is needed and where, and He places His people like salt all over the earth. Without Spirit-filled believers, this world is bland and tasteless…but with faithful Christians walking in love and truth, society gains proper spiritual flavor.
I remember my ministry partner John, a retiree, often encouraging me to be a good testimony at my secular job. He would say, “Remember buddy, you make that place taste good to the Lord. You’re the only one there giving that place good flavor in God’s eyes.” That perspective stuck with me and reminded me of the importance of everyday faithfulness.
Wherever you live and work, if you are a Christian, you bring the flavor of Christ into your environment. God wants your saltiness to be tasted by those around you. Be the seasoning that points others to Him in a world that desperately needs His flavor.
“Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.” – Colossians 4:6

Thank you for sharing this valuable reminder today Eric. May we be the gospel salt in our lives today! God bless you today brother 🙏

I love that God sprinkles us like salt all over the earth to bring His light and love to others. I felt very isolated at my previous job and wondered daily why I was there. God reminded me that I was there to shine His light to others. Thank you for this reminder, Eric. Have a blessed day!

You and your ministry partner sound like you’re good spiritual chefs and never allow your salt shakers to stay full for very long. Thank you, Eric, for shaking a little salt on me today. 🙂
