Speaking Truth in Love

The world is full of smooth talkers and polished lies. They sound good, feel good, and pull people away from the solid ground of God’s truth. That’s why Paul warns believers not to be like children—easily swayed by every new teaching or trending idea. Truth doesn’t shift with culture. It stands firm because it’s anchored in Christ.

But truth alone isn’t enough. Some people swing a sword of truth with no concern for who it cuts. Others hide behind love and avoid truth altogether. Neither honors God. Real maturity is found where truth and love meet—steady, sincere, and fearless.

Speaking the truth in love takes courage. It means choosing honesty even when it’s uncomfortable, standing firm even when it’s unpopular, and correcting with compassion instead of pride. Love doesn’t mean silence, and truth doesn’t mean cruelty. Both belong together, just like grace and truth are perfectly joined in Jesus.

Christ didn’t flatter people to keep peace, and He didn’t crush them with condemnation. He spoke what was right, and He did it with a heart that genuinely cared for souls. That’s our pattern.

So speak up. Speak wisely. Speak in love. Let your words be firm enough to stand on, and kind enough to heal. When truth and love guide your tongue, you’re walking in step with Christ.

  2. Excellent post Eric. Truth and love certainly work actively together, just like a good mallet and chisel in the wood workers tool shed – with gentle taps a masterpiece is patiently carved. When we apply truth and love we are creating Masterpieces for our Master. May He guide our eyes, ears and hands in His work today. God bless you and your family dear brother 🙏

    1. I used to heap a lot of pressure on myself to speak up all the time for everything, launching truth rockets like a madman…I have a black and white/ right and wrong attitude with things in life. But then the Lord showed me that He only asked me to speak up when He prompted me to do so…that took the pressure off but forced me to have a better listening ear for the prompting of the Holy Spirit. That’s tomorrow’s devotional…🤓
