What Will He Look Like?

Nine months is the typical length of stay for a baby in it’s Momma’s belly. After that, the whole world gets to see what baby looks like for the very first time…but nobody is more curious than Mom herself. After feeling the kicks, the movements, and the pains, she wants to see who has been sharing her life for nine months.

Typically, Mom and Dad are excited to meet their newborn baby and see how he/she shares their physical features…I’ve heard these observations a dozen times:

“Oh honey, he has your button nose!”

“Oh darling, she has your smile!”

“Look at his eyes, just like Mom!”

I can only wonder what Mary was thinking when she went into labor. Was she scared or at peace as she delivered the Prince of Peace? Was her labor hard or did God remove her pain?

Did something supernatural happen the moment Jesus cried his first cry? (We know what happened in the land when he cried his last! See Matthew 27:50-54)

I guarantee she couldn’t wait to see what the prophesied son of God looked like! Every time I see pictures of baby Jesus, nativity scene baby Jesus, paintings of baby Jesus, and sculptures of baby Jesus I can only shake my head. All of them put forth a solid effort, but none of them are accurate. We don’t know what baby Jesus looked like…and we don’t know what adult Jesus looks like either.

Nope…still not Jesus Christ.

What will He look like when we stand before Him one day? I don’t know, but after four decades on this planet He will be a sight for my sore eyes. He will be perfectly formed and undeniably unique…and we will know Him the moment we see Him!

I have to believe that Mary looked at baby Jesus and had no doubt that there was something different about THIS baby.

And she’d have been exactly right! This was the only begotten Son of Almighty God! The Messiah! Emmanuel! The King of Kings and Lord of Lords in the flesh!

Hallelujah and Merry Christmas everyone!
